We use PatternMaster wax printers which can make almost any geometry, accurately and repeatably.  The constraints of carving and moldmaking don't apply, because these 3D printers build parts up in layers rather than carving them out of a block.  Deep undercuts, shaped holes, knotwork, raised or incised lettering...the build volume is not large, but within it you are free.

The Patternmaster specializes in very small wax models that are optimized for investment casting.

Typical parts are 1/2" to 3" in size, with larger parts tending to be flatter.  They are made of a non-toxic thermoplastic similar to jeweler's injection wax.  More information is here.
